WHITENING

Teeth Whitening

Experts from all over the world have been for many years steadily searching for new, more effective substances to be employed in thet teeth whitening is a well-known .

But only a few people are aware of the fact that laser is undoubtedly the fastest and most effective way to achieve natural white teeth.

It is however necessary to explain something about teeth stains, before proceeding with the illustration of the laser whitening. Basically, teeth stains can be divided into two groups:
  • stains of external origin, caused by tea, coffee, tobacco, tabacco, vino, and other herbs;
  • stains of internal origin, caused by antibiotics (e.g. tetracycline) assumed at a young age, or consequence of not treated root canal defects.

While the first group can be effectively treated even with traditional whitening methods, the second group of stains can be removed only by means of the laser light.

The whitening action is stimulated through an oxydation process. A gel containing H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide), is applied on the surface of the teeth and subsequently activated through laser irradiation. As aresult of the activation, hydrogen peroxide begins to dissolve and to release free radicals that, penetrating into molecular pygments, reflect the laser light that hits the teeth, bringing about a "bleaching effect".

To protect gingiva a special isolating material called " poymerisable isolating dam" is applied, to avert the contact of the hydrogen peroxide with the gingival tissue, which could lead to its inflammation.

The laser irradiation of the teeth is performed by means of a special handpiece that defocuses light and activates hydrogen peroxide by causing the double ties of the pygments located in the teeth to split up and originate smaller components , more soluble and easier to clean.

The whitening process consists of several different phases:

  • diagnosis of the pygmentation and inquiry into its possible causes

  • identification of thet teeth colour on the standard scale

  • take a picture to testify how the tooth/teeth looked like before the treatment

  • application of the isolation dam for protecting the gingival tissue

  • application of the bleaching gel

  • laser light irradiation

  •  let the product operate for 10 minutes

  • removed both gel and isolation dam

To check the result of the treatment on the teeth, one has to wait until its action is over, that is a couple of days after the treatment has been done.

The comparison of the teeth pictures before and after the treatment is sufficient to prove the effectiveness of the treatment.

To maximize the duration of the whitening effect, the treatment can be integrated with a home whitening. Furthermore, it is important to restrict the assumption of strongly discolouring foods or drinks (e.g.coffee, wine) and to avoid smoking on the next 48 hrs.
